Red Rocks Park & Ampitheater - Morrison
It goes without saying that Red Rocks Park is a magical spot. At the base of the foothills, this place is legendary for its towering rock formations and rugged landscape all while having stunning views of both the city and mountains to work into our photoshoot. There are lots of trails to explore and rock formations to use for photos, however there is a strict “stay-on-trail” rule that we will need to follow when at the park.
Inside the Ampitheater is another spot to explore with amazing views in the front and the iconic “Red Rocks” in the back. Please note that most evenings the Ampitheater is not available for photoshoots due to shows being set up for their respective performances.
Best time for photoshoot: Mornings & Evenings (when no event is scheduled)
Permits required: 1 for trails, 1 for inside the Ampitheater (both free)
Golden History Park - Golden
Nothing says “the Old West” like the original capital of Colorado: Golden. This park doubles as a time capsule with its historic cabins which have been maintained and transformed into a museum by the City of Golden. With so many cabins, there are tons of spots to take advantage of for photos and just a short walk away you have Clear Creek for more nature-based shots as well as downtown Golden for a more urban vibe.
Best time for photoshoot: Mornings & Evenings
Permits required: For interior cabin shots only ($50), exterior permit not required
Rino Arts District - River North
If art is your thing, then RiNo is your spot. Artists are given free reign on their murals in RiNo and it makes taking photos there a breeze. There are so many unique spots to choose from as well as the Denver skyline which is in plain view. If you are seeking an urban and colorful vibe, this is it.
Best time for photoshoot: Afternoons & Evenings
Permits required: General Denver permits (free)
Union Station - Denver
Built in 1914, this active train station retains its turn-of-the-century charm with a beautiful main terminal that is perfect for a more luxurious feel to your photos. In the Great Hall there are lots of couches and other seating to use for a variety of looks and poses. Union Station’s decor and atmosphere definitely elevate portraits to a whole new level.
Some quick notes: There will be people coming and going through the terminal during our shoot, we’ll try our best to work around them. Union Station only allows for 45 minutes for indoor shoots, we can use the remining time to go capture some outdoor shots in the courtyard.
Best time for photoshoot: Afternoons & Evenings
Permits required: 1 for indoor, 1 for outdoor
Roxborough State Park - Littleton
I have to say it, this place is gorgeous. If you love the outdoors, this is the spot for you. Everywhere you look there are amazing backdrops for any kind of photoshoot; family, couples, pets, solo, you name it!
The address says Littleton however it is much further south than you would think, but it is absolutely worth it. Please note: there is a $10 daily park fee to access the park by vehicle.
Best time for photoshoot: Mornings & Evenings
Permits required: $60 photography permit
Cherry Creek State Park - Aurora
This massive park is located near the Denver Technology Center in southern Aurora and is perfect for nature photoshoots without the long drive. There are lots of trails and features that make this park a great place to take portraits of all kinds. Dogs are also welcome here so long as they remain on-leash, but there is also a off-leash area to explore as well.
A daily park pass is $10 with a vehicle and $4 without.
